I started bowling ducks when I was 9yrs. old in the Forestville Boys and
Girls club.( Early 70's ) I was hooked at that age. As time moved on so did
I and began bowling in the adult leagues 2 to 4 times a week. Than of course
you had your out of town tournaments that were always fun. I use to bowl
at Marlow Heights when it was completely duckpins. Parkland Bowl, Fontana
Bowlarama, White Oak and Suitland Bowl. Quite a few of these lanes have either
changed to 10pin houses or just disappeared. (No Business) It's a shame big
sponsors didn't get involved with Duckpins as they have with 10 pins. The
bottom line is Duckpins is a much harder sport than 10 pins and takes much
more skill. How many 300 games have you seen or 200 averages are there in
Duckpins?? I wish there was Duckpin house close to Charles county I would
like to get my children involved... Definitely a fun game. One last comment
if you look in the Duckpins world records you'll find my name listed. (4-man
world record set.) I was low man that night but the other 3 guys bowled there
butts off. See Ya....

Never knew about it until I worked in Hagerstown MD. Way more popular there
then ten pins. My family now loves duck pin bowling. My little one wants
to go back to Maryland just to play. Last Thanksgiving I took him to Gettysburg.
He made me drive down to Hagerstown to duck pin bowl! We tell our New Jersey
friends about it. Almost all have never heard of duck pins, or even rubber
band duck pins. Can't wait until they get "smart" up here and get duck
pins!

This is a great sport my parents bowled duckpins when I was little till my
teen years in Glen Burnie at Greenway bowl which unfortunally burned down.
I bowled in a school league in the 70's now in my 30's stiil bowl this wonderful
sport and now my 8 year old daughter has been bowling the last 4 years at
Glen Burnie bowling center. Everybody should enjoy this way of bowling at
least once in thier life.

Great site! I grew up near Annapolis, MD and bowled dux for many years. My
favorite duckpin house was Colonial Lanes in Annapolis, it had 40 lanes.
It was quite the place to be back in the day. It's sad that many duckping
bowling alleys have closed over the years. Duckpin bowling is truly rich
in tradition, and deserves to remain part of the Maryland culture. Let's
do what we can to keep it rolling.

I grew up bowling Duckpins in Rhode Island. I am now living in North Carolina.
I miss playing Duckpins alot. I would like to see efforts made to try and
bring this bowling version back from having 1 foot in the grave. Talking
to a lot of people here say they would try it and it sounds like a whole
lot of fun. SAVE THE DUCKS!

Hi folks! I'm glad that there are so many interested in this game. To tell
you the truth I hated bowling (I thought it was dorky with a capital D) until
I disovered this game. I'm 23 and I just duckpin bowled at Dormont Lanes
for the first time about three months ago. Dormont just tore up its lanes,
and I believe the place that had it in Carrick is closed. Can anyone tell
me where I can play in Pittsburgh or within an hour's drive? Are they open
all year round or seasonal? Any place to play Candlepins (GREAT GAME, even
harder than duckpins, had to go to Mocton, New2 Brunswick to play)? Thanks
a lot.

I think your site is very informative. I first learned about Duckpin bowling
while living in Virginia. There was a small alley in Middleburg, VA housed
in the basement of the community center. The kids had a blast and it kept
them off the streets. I would love to open an alley here in Cape Coral. There
are many youngsters who are looking for something new to do and the local
bowling alleys are always full. You've given me a better insite to the desire
to promote this sport. I'd like to learn more!

I just want to say how great is to see a site that let's folks know about
duck pins. As the head of a stay at home dads group, we are always looking
for ways to have fun with our kids. Duck pins is a great way to have fun.
Thanks to this site I was able to find several lanes in my area to bowl a
few ducks. Thanks so much for the site, and I let our whole community of
stay at home dads know about the site, and encouraged them all to get out
there and bowl. Thanks, Mike Stilwell

Robin, Nice to see a site dedicated to duckpins. I grew up in the business
and currently operate Thunderhead Bowl in Taneytown, MD. We have 12 Duckpin
Lanes and 16 Tenpin Lanes. We have found it harder to fill let alone start
duckpin leagues. Our best success with duckpins has been with kids, but most
move over to tenpins when they are teenagers. Not ready to give up on duckpins
yet !!!

I grew up in Maryland and have fond memories of duckpin bowling. But I had
almost forgotten about it until a new bowling alley opened up here in Indiana
and has several lanes dedicated to duckpins. It's marketed as a kid's game
(complete with bumpers that prevent gutter balls). I've played several times.
I wish it was taken more seriously and that there were leagues here.

you and now know the history of the sport. I grew up with the now closed
Westbard Ave lanes, I now take my 2 year old to Seidel's in Baltimore. We

Hey great site I see your very interested in Duck pin cool :) But I do 5
pin bowling it's surprising I was reading an online article about certain
veriations of bowling and I have found out that every five years 20 duck
pin centers shut down and 12 five pin centers open that's why I thought I
should tell some Duck pinners that there sport is going down the drain anyways
have fun good luck and good bowling :)

Hello folks! In the past few months I've re-discovered the fun of duckpins
since I have a 4-yr old who loves the sport! My husband & I take her
duckpin bowling to either Tuffy Leeman's Glenmont Lanes or White Oak Lanes,
once at AMF College Park. Today I checked out the smaller lanes in Frederick,
Mt Airy & Walkersville. The latter has a Sun. family special from 1-4
where you get 1 lane for 2 hours with shoe rental for only $13. I've also
come across a website for Paramount Industries in Mass., which makes new
duckpin balls. If you contact them directly, a new ball costs only about
$35, instead of $60-75 that a bowling alley will charge. Here's the link
for it: http://www.tiac.net/users/pii/1bld.htm As Jay & the Techniques
sing: "Keep the ball rolling!"
