I was an army brat back in 1975. Lived in Heidelberg, Germany. Best times of my life. I remember thinking how cool I was smoking ciggeretts behind the bleachers, wearing an engineer hat made out of phoney suede and magic marker as eyeliner. I remember writing in Slam Books and make those paper things that you pick a number between 1 and 4 and you open it up. Then you read what someone wrote. Usually something nasty. I remember carrying my boombox (which was much smaller in those days) with me everywhere I went. I was into Wings, Foreignor and Abba. God I miss those days! I'm so glad I was born in the 60's! Thanks for your website. It really brings back memories! Heather

Grew up in England (and briefly in America) during the Seventies (Air Force brat). Things I remember and like to remember: If someone was running, they were "bookin'..." "Heatwave" was hot (Boogie Nights, Groove Line), but "dark and depressing" (to me - maybe it was just something going on at the time, but I remember being depressed listening to them). ABAA was hot and "uplifting, and upbeat." Dancing Queen still gets me up! WE WANT KISS! WE WANT KISS! WE WANT KISS! Alive and Alive II (later)! Gene Simmons' voice crack coming out of "God of Thunder" drum solo: EYE-EEE-EYE am the Lord of the Wasteland..." Socks with those colour stripes around the top. The first time I ever saw a pair of DENIM sneakers. And Sneakers that had that front toe curl-up thingie. Choppers! (And I mean the bicycle). Miami Dolphins an Pittsburg Steelers. Dunno why. Just seems they were it in the seventies. I don't even know if they did all that well. Tetherball Bikes with those front mounted baskets that EVERYONE rode to school. If you were really cool, you had rear sidemount baskets. Bike locks that were the chain with the tube-shaped roller number combo. Snakes (in America - Don't have em in England). Remember how much more wildlife there seemed to be? Lizards and scorpions, and HUGE mantises. FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!! Remember when your parents let you wander around wherever you wanted with only the "be home in time for dinner" command? Middle fo the day, after dark, whenever. We weren't afraid then. This is the saddest loss of all, and something I really wish I could give to my kids. But I think those days really are gone now. Drugs and Gangs were unheard of in the day. Or if they were, they were the problem of just one or two "bullies" who we all stayed away from anyway. Sad sad loss.

Robin: I believe I heard a mistake on the first episode of "that 80's show". One of the characters made a comment about velcro fasteners as a new thing. The show is slated 1984, I graduatd highschool in 72. Before I graduated a friend of mine had a coat that we thought was incredible. When he undid it we thought he was ripping his new coat to pieces. It was the then new item velco. I have seen many mistakes on that 70's show also. Eric wanted a cassette player for the station wagon real bad, but, at that time there was more available on 8 track, people of that time would have wanted an 8 track player more. someone really needs to be put on the writing staff to keep them straight. Sorry to burn your ears so long but believe it or not I have a big library of 8 tracks downstairs as well as a sears lp/cassette/8track/am/fmstereo player and it all still works.

Hi Robin, I hope you can help me. Since I was small I've had this song that I remember only the basics of taunting me. It was my favorite song in the mid 70's. It's NOT Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" but it's along the same premise. The lyrics are something like you don't have to change the way you wear your hair ((or something about pins in your hair)) He is telling her he loves her not the things she wears or the way she wears her hair. It's driving me crazy I have 4 DJ's pulling their hair out over this. I keep getting the tune mixed up with Pablo Cruise's "What you gonna do" because I thing both were popular aroung that time and would have been played on the same station. HELP please if you can. Even if you just give me a whole bunch of maybe's songs & Artists I would appreciate it. I was born in 1973 so it has to be about 1975-1979 air play time. Thanks for your help if you can. Had a lot of fun on your site, and it bought back some great memories. I lived on Long Island till I was 10 (in '69) and we also had a milkman driving one of those great Divco milk trucks. He also sold Charles Chips, and we had a few cans around ourselves. Yup, wish I still had a can now, too! Going back to your site now to have a bit more fun! Cheers,

I live in a world of the 70's even with the current conditions surrounding me in a cacoon of school shootings, road rage, air rage, and 15 minute wannabees who will step on you to get what ever they can. I was lucky to be born in 63, the year Harvey Ball designed the first happy face to improve work relations, (who died just 2 saturdays ago). I grew up with bubblegum music , go-carts, dune buggies, Partridge Family, Cowsills, and playboy under my bed. I had a great childhood and try to keep some of those memories. I paint very 70's related pictures of butterflies, mushrooms and other colorful psychedelic art, in my mind I am quite good and would never entertain any thought to go out on the open market to sell any of it, even though I am a baby boomer( on the cusp since it ended in 1965) I don't think like the normal boomer, im not out to get rich, or buy memorabilia and keep them in packages because they might be worth something later on. I am more genuine than that, I grew up in a time when we wanted to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony, which is my favorite commercial. I would like to talk to you more, anyone who loves the 70's is'nt all bad. Any hope that we could still do that.

Forgive me if this gets wordy, but the 70's were and are my favorite decade.Even though I was born in 1969, I still seem to remember most of the '70's, I remember "Day by Day" playing on the radio, an early TV broadcast of "Deliverance", and this commercial from when plastic soda bottles first came out which showed this lady knocking a 2-liter bottle off her table or counter and she gets this shocked look on her face, then the bottle is shown in slow-motion landing on the floor and bouncing back. Among my favorite shows were ZOOM, Love American Style, New Zoo Revue, Electric Company, James at 15(and 16), a short-lived series called Mulligan's Stew, Uncle Smiley(more of an inbetween show than an actual series, I think it was indigenous to the Philadelphia area, but if anybody else remembers it please write me), and a short cartoon called The Most Important Person. I used to love the Budweiser commercials from that period("When you say Bud"), Lowenbrau("Here's to Good Friends"), the commercial with the Indian(Iron Eyes Cody) where he walks through a trash-ridden city and a driver throws a bag of trash at his feet and a single tear comes down his face, Juicy-Fruit(with the zebra), the Tootsie-roll tootsie-pop commercial(wise old owl, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie-roll tootsie pop? ah..1, ah..2, ah..3 crunch, 3), Rice-A-Roni, The Coke commercial where a multi-ethnic group gathers into the shape of a Christmas tree with everyone holding a candle. I enjoyed(and still do) the music of Boston, Kansas(does anybody remember "Heroes" with Henry Winkler and Sally Field? I think "Carry On, Wayward Son" was in the soundtrack), Queen, Wings, The Commodores, Stevie Wonder, Minnie Riperton, Phoebe Snow, and I even won the "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack on vinyl at this game somewhere along the Jersey shore(unfortunately damaged during a move), as I'm writing this the radio is playing "More, More, More" by The Andrea True Connection, the first 45 I ever owned was either "Dancing Queen" or "Fly Away". Some movies about the 70's I like are Boogie Nights, 54, and Spirit of '76(should be required watching for anyone who calls themselves a 70's afficianado). I've been collecting this series of CD's(sorry, I can't find them on 8-track or vinyl) called "Super Hits of the 70's Have A Nice Day" which are put out by Rhino and have 12 songs(10 on cassette) each because I would like to have a comprehensive collection of 70's music, there is also a similar set for Soul Music of the 70's(no, I don't get a royalty for saying that). I could go on but I think I would have to rent space so I guess I'll leave it at that for now. I salute anyone who tries to keep the 70's alive, thanks for your site. In the words of Don Cornelius "Peace, love, and soul". Keep on truckin'.
