Do you remember the 60's?

Remember Clackers! I found a Cache of them at the Fleamarket last year. If oyu want some go to my Site.... As for the '60s I almost missed them. If it wasn't for reruns, the Saterday Morning Kroft Supershow, Sigmund the Seamonster, Speed Buggy and hand me downs from 6 older cousins I might not know what cool things there were to miss. How about skinny skate boards!!! And those cool Wide World of Sports Friesbee and Skate Board Demo's, the Harlem Globe Trotters and Planet of the Apes.

Hello, had to write. I lived in Chicago and graduated from HS in 1967. I owned 2 dresses made of PAPER--they were supposedly the disposable clothing of the future--one had yellow & orange flowers, the other was of paper-backed silver foil. Also, one day I cut holes for my head and arms out of a printed burlap potato sack and wore it to school as a minidress--very scratchy but worth it for the weird looks I got!

Wax lips were great, but does anyone remember the wax orange harmonica that came out around Halloween ? It was shaped like a triangle and tasted great the first 15 seconds. Then it lost it's taste and you ended up taking it out of your mouth and throwing it at one of your friends. If you were raised in the NYC area like me do you remember Officer Joe Boultin, Captain Jack McCarthy, Sandy Becker (with Hambone), Chuck McCann, Wonderama with Sonny Fox and then Bob McAlister (the snake can game)? How about Soupy Sales, Paul Winchel, Jerry Mahony and Knuckle Head, Super Car and the Thunderbirds, Giagantor, Diver Dan (and his talking Barracuda) What about games like Hands Down, Green Goast, Chutes and Ladders, the man's face covered with metal shavings and you would have to shape it into a beard with a magnet or the picture of Popeye that you covered with glue and apply velvet to him. And last but not least, building a car model and then blowing it up with an M-80 in your back yard !!!! Fun for all.... Thanks for the memories.

I had a car dashboard when I was about 8 (Maybe around 1965-66?). It was red, had a windshield and working windshield wipers. Working buttons, etc. I have been trying to see if anyone else had one of these and who made it? I'd love to pick up a vintage one off ebay if I knew what it was called...anyone help? Ah, what a great time that was!

I was born in 1947. I remember when log cabin syrup came in a little tin log cabin and you poured it out of the chimney. I remember buying margarine(oleo) in a plastic pouch with a red dot in it. It was white until you broke the red dot and smushed it around until it turned yellow. I watched Howdy Doody, Victory at Sea, Captain Midnight and Davey Crockett on. I hated big band music that my parents listened to. I wasn't real big on Elvis either. About '62 I heard the Beach Boys for the first time they were my favorite until the Beatles rolled around. If you wore your hair like the Beatles the Jocks were known to get you down and cut it. In high school we danced the pony, and wore Starched Gant shirts, Burnt Ivory shoes, and Levis stay pressed slacks. Drugs hadn't invaded the midwest yet.

I'm hoping someone out there can help me. As a girl in the mid-late 60's I remember some boys I knew had a playset of cowboys and Indians. The set included horses, and a fort of some kind. The figurines were Barbie like, size and movable (I think) wore tan clothes, but the girl had a blue vest that came off. The cowboys all had gun belts and the indians had headdress' that came off. I want to find out who made them and if anyone else had fun playing with them as I did.

Gee, you all have brought back zillions of memories. I had actually tried to look up chum gum to see if I could order it. Boo-Hoo they don't make it anymore. I loved that stuff. Where can you get 2 pieces of gum today for a penny?? In the winter I wore wool shorts with knee socks and saddle oxfords. I carried a purse that was made from a metal lunchbox, spray painted and appliques all over it, and that was cool then. Thanks for the memories.

Does any one remember the cartoon show Winky Dink? How about paper straws with chocolate or strawberry powder in them and when you put them into a glass of milk the white milk turned to chocolate or strawberry as it came through the straw. I'd give anything for some fizzies for my grandchildren. Can you buy them anywhere? Donna Beard

Hey! Does anyone remember this toy! It was kind of a playset/dollhouse. You set up walls to make the inside of a house on a flat metal play surface that sat about an inch or so off the ground. You then put the people, which had little round magnets on the bottom of their bases, got this long handle thing [i think they called it a magic wand] that also had a magnet on it, stuck it under the board and you could then attach to one of the family members and make them walk around the house. I know it sounds crazy and I'm not doing it justice, but I really loved it! No one seems to remember. It probably came out in the late 50's early 60's. Help!!

Love your site!! I just got home from a trip to Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, where you can return to the 60's anytime. I scored a beautiful brown suede leather LONG FRINGED jacket. So Happy. I remember the ringing princess phones, battery operated, with the miles of wiring you could stretch out from room to room and actually talk on. The magic coin back where the creepy hand can out and snatched the coin. Zippy the monkey. Flavor-aid and FIZZIES, mmm mmm.I loved my incredible edibles machine as well as my pretzle jetzle, snow cone machine, cotton candy machine and of course the old yellow easy bake oven. I would get them all running and make treats for my brothers. Gas was 29.9 forever. Roller skates with the pitted metal wheels and skate key. My blue "Sears" girl's bike, I loved it. What we saved our money up for was a tire patch kit, you always needed those. I had a small zither from Germany, with the music sheets that slid under the wires, that I played as though it were the best. Lawrence Welk and The Jackie Gleason show and on Sundays The Red Skelton show. Going to the movies and staying the entire day and watching over and over. Mr. Peabody and Mr. Wizard. I have black cats named Boris and Natasha. I collect incense, stickers, door beads, posters and anything else I can get my hands on from the sixties. Would love a pen pal, feel free to write. Jody
