i just saw your holiday cookie swap on tv, reminded me of mine that i had started in 1988, when my mother-in-law(the true suzy homemaker of her day) died. i was devastated, how could christmas go on without cookies for my husband?!!! and what was more horrible is that i would never be able to do what she did. so i did the next best thing, i started my own cookie exchange at home with working women like myself, it was a tremendous hit! no woman wanted to be stuck trying to make several different kinds of cookies during the busiest time of the year. then i told a girl at work about my cookie exchange and she suggested that we have one at work. well, i never baked so many cookies in my life, but they were one kind and i didn't have to worry about different varieties and the mess that comes with them. both exchanges were a hit and each lasted about ten years, i even left the dept. that i had worked in and they still kept it going and invited me back for it each year. i have not done it in a few years and i certainly miss them. your show was an inspiration for next year, if willing. thank you. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

I am trying to find a basic butter cookie recipe or a sugar cookie recipe that I could top with pine nuts that will taste like a good cookie. I haven't been baking for that long and know that you can change the type of nuts you use but not knowing what recipes you can do this with is what has me puzzled. for example would you use pine nuts in a recipe that calls for almonds. I want to make a cookie topped with pine nuts, but not using the only two recipes using pine nut called for almond paste, and due to my being out of work due to surgery it is to expensive for me and to make it myself is to long for me to stand in the kitchen. any suggestions to top a simple recipe with pine nuts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Barbara

Hello Robin, I saw the Food Network Special on Cookie Exchanges this past weekend. I love how you get your husband to take the kids away and you get the house all to yourself and guests:) I am the mother of a six and three year-old and my close friends have between six and two year-olds too, so I host my exchange during the day with our little ones playing all around us. This year our six year olds are in first grade, so we just have the little ones. It is better than having the music from all of them! I will be hosting my second cookie exchange, Dec. 17. I have copied a few recipes, the invitation and some games for future exchanges. After seeing the show, I believe I will be making my exchange a holiday tradition such as yours. While they may be a lot of work, they are definitely worth the effort when you spend that time with the special people in your life. Thanks and continued success. I'll be back...
