I was an AF brat and my father was a pilot, so I remember moving back from
Germany, having a red leather dress,as that was really hot. I remember the
wonderful boys like Jonathan next door who collected old Corvettes and restored
them with his dad - my first kiss was from him. I remember short dresses,
loud prints, Razzles gum, slumber parties, oh gosh, the Brady Bunch!! Later
I remember Farrah Fawcett shampoo, Charlies Angels, wedge heels, halter tops
with shorts, water skiing, wonderful memories of the 60's and 70's!!! Remember
Space Food sticks by Pillsbury? Also, Knockers - a rough toy! Saturday Night
Fever, discos....Cher, Elton John....A fun and safer time, much easier time.
LOVED the 60's and 70's!!! Capezio wrap leotards, cosmetics that I could
WEAR!!!! All has changed in the cosmetic industry now. Hate it. Lets see....The
Last Picture Show...boys, boys and boys. Ha Just a blast wherever we were
living - Texas and Lousiana and Germany, Rhode Island, Germany.....

OMG!!!!! I remember so much of the 70,s.....true penny candy, the Bay City
Rollers!!!!!!! Who didnt hit the floor of the skating rink when s-a-t-u-r-d-a-y
night played.... the music was great, and I could walk to the store 1/2 mile
away by myself, and not worry about being kidnapped, or hurt, picking up
popbottles along the way. I grew up in South Carolina, and loved going to
the beach, and riding rides on the pier at Folly Beach. This site brings
back so many memories, I love it!!!!!

does anyone else remember the levis jeans commercial with the guy yodeling
the whole song? it was popular in about 1973. i remember wearing hot pants
(short shorts), halter tops (i was just a kid - no boobs), and a pair of
funky denim platform shoes with red strawberries on the top them that I had
to BEG my mother to buy for me. I always wanted a pair of white go-go boots
too, but she never got me those. What about mini-dresses with bloomers
underneath? I loved the donny & marie show and the sonny & cher comedy
hour! One bad memory though was my parents watching The Lawrence Welk Show.
We only had one t.v. set so it was that or nothing. Oh my god, what about
The Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack and that Don Kirschner show with the
rock concerts.

I was a young child in the 70's but remember those years very vividly. I
used to come home from school and no one would be home (my mother worked)
Everyday I would watch re-runs (this is around 1976)of Brady Bunch and then
immediately after Dark Shadows. I don't know what has happened to T.V. today
but it has certainly gone to hell in a hand basket. Loved the 70's, wish
things could be simplier like it was then! (Sigh!)

Does anyone remember when telephones had party lines? I'd want to call my
friends and I would have to wait for the other party (who shared the line)
to get off the phone. I felt like my family was the only one who had a party
line and a limited line.

I was born in 1965 and my childhood was the 70's!! Playing outside in the
summer with all the nieghborhood kids. Ding-Dong Ditch, Spin the Bottle,
Kick The Can, smoking cigarettes behind the garage! Riding our bikes everywhere!
Quisp cereal, Sat. morning cartoons, AM radio, CB radio, "Afternoon Delight"
what a great cheesy song! The big Bi-Centenial celebrations in 1976!Feathered
hair, clogs, Bass Shoes, drawing little mushrooms and smiley faces on our
assignment notebooks. Going to "1st base" was a big deal, going to "3rd"
meant you were a sleeze! Corkies sandals. WLS and WCFL AM radio in Chicago!
"Boogie Checks!" 16 magazine. Shaun Cassidy, Parker Stevenson, John Travolta,
Davey Jones, Bobby Sherman, Leif Garret, Donny Osmond, Tony DiFranco. Peter
Frampton's "Come Alive " album. Flying in 747's that had the second level
with a spiral staircase and you could get drinks and treats at the bar. Getting
off the plane with those stairs on wheels they used to bring out to the airplane!
Playing outside with friends and not coming inside for hours! Just hitting
a tennis ball against the garage or playing basketball.(We played
HORSE)Slathering ourselves in OFF bug spray and no one ever got sick from
it! Laying out in the sun with baby oil and iodine and putting aluminum foil
on our album jackets to help maximize the sun's rays! I loved it! What a
great time it was!

I entered the 1970 at the age of 10 and exited 20. What great memories. My
best friends all were my neighbors, we played every kind of know sport and
more than a few mad up ones. After school we would race home and watch "Dark
Shaddows." Saturday TV was filled with American Bandstand and Soul Train.
I am a collector of 70's music and have all the greats. I admit, I am stuck
in the 70's and love every minute of it. KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!!

buttoneer, the rhinestone & stud setter, pocket fisherman, record vac,
record selector, egg decorator, glass & bottle cutter. Also remember
the K-Tel record albums like Hit Explosion, I think they only costed about
$4 or $5 .

Hi can anyone remember a song with these lines in it: Is it any wonder we
had to see the sun go down, Is it any wonder we had to see the full moon
coming around. Also: Mama said ohhh there's something strange about Billy
The farmer down the road said he lost a few of his sheep last night ----
It was about a boy named Billy who was a werewolf. I am sure it was from
the 70's. I think the name was "Is it any wonder". I am trying to find a
copy and the lyrics. Thank you. Best Regards: Connie Everitt Kitimat, BC

I loved the 70's it was free everything and people were totally different.
When they said something to you they meant it; it's not like now. Right now
I am having an argument with Sparty02@aol.com telling me that the first gas
shortage was in the 80's and I am telling him it started in the early 70's.
If anyone remembers this please email them and tell them they are wrong.

Did any of you get the pleasure of attending EXPO '74...in Spokane WA? If
you didn't..well..for me as an 11 year old living in a semi small farm
community...the whole world came to Spokane....the sounds....the smells.....the
excitement....the feeling of you didn't really know what was going to happen
from day to day...I had a season pass....but only went a handful of times.
You know I was listening to Chicago...last thursday night and "Saturday In
The Park" came on....that song to me send shivvers though my body...it is
excactly the way it was...for years I thought that song was written specificly
for EXPO '74...but it was written a couple years before....I really love
this site...and now is one of my favorites...I promise to write an entry
each week...about my memories of our '70's

And I thought I was the only one still stuck in the 70's....This was a typical
Saturday in Spokane, I would wake up at the crack of dawn, so I would get
a jump on cartoon day.....like...The Hairbear Bunch....H.R.
Puffnstuf...Liddsville...Scooby-Doo...and so on. The last cartoon usually
was Fat Albert....and then this was followed up by Creature-Feature...which
had 2 good scary monster movies....the next thing I knew...I had vegated
the whole day watching TV. Do you remember how annoyed we were when "In The
News" came on in between cartoons? I saw one of those clips a couple years
ago....and about died...I miss hearing, In The News with Christopher Glenn.

Oh Lord, how do I compare today's world, nay music to the Seventies? There
is no comparision! The coolest music EVER came out from the Seventies, and
for me, Southern Rock says it all! (Of course we still listened to Elton
John, The Eagles, Boston, etc.) All the girls I knew had flybacks, as we
in the South called wings, and we all tried to have the glossiest (read
greasiest) lips in school. Blue eyeshadow was not to be seen without, and
if you weren't blond, you had to have blond highlights. Half of the dresses
you now laugh at on The Brady Bunch were what we actually wore to school!
We even had the same textbooks! Being a native Floridian, I remember when
Walt Disney World first opened. We thought it was so neat that Florida had
been chosen over so many other states! Now however, I try to get visitors
to Florida to see something other than WDW and the beaches. I have 3 sisters,
and the first Christmas mood rings came out, our parents gave each of us
one. Platform shoes were sooooo hot, and my oldest sister had one of the
tallest pairs in the county! Polyester... who the hell invented that crap?
So many of our clothes were made out of it, and in the South, that spelled
disaster with the heat and humidity! I sometimes wish I could go back to
that time, when my dad bought a GOOD used '69 Chevy Impala, and made it last
through 6 children! Even though I now drive a Volvo, I miss that old Impala.
I could handle that car like there was no tomorrow, and even parallel park
it. Gas was cheap, and the gas shortage set in. The recession that followed
was hard on all, but we made it through. The only thing I would change would
be to erase all of the polyester!

Love the site! I grew up durring that wonderful mystical time when the music
was about love and it came in the form of a AM radio in my mothers 64 Rambler,
or the transistor radio I got for mowing a million lawns. Click-Clacks (remember
that toy?) were not yet a leathal weapon, and I longed to be next to one
of the DeFranco girls. Gas was cheap and so was the drive-in. In the summer
we didn't have the water park, we had the sprinkler or the lake. Anyone that
was an adult was sir or maam, and god forbid you called them by there first
name. Punishment came in the form of a willow tree that supllied an endless
source of whippin sticks...I hated that old willow. I miss the good ol days.
I still drive my 1968 VW bus, listen to all of the old "good music" and give
the peace sign whenever I see someone who would understand what it means.
So RIGHT ON!! Stay hip, and don't let the man get you down. Remember...He's
not heavy, He's my brother.

Ahh...the 70's! A time when children actually "played" a game of kickball
or freeze tag outside in the warm sun without the incentive of some whirly-twirly
electronic gadget that turned television into a sinister brain warping device.
What did YOU do when the Saturday morning cartoons went off...you went outside
to find real adventures. Nearly my entire childhood took place in the 70's
era. From 3 years old up to 13 and I tell you there wasn't a better time
to be a kid. The parks, basketball courts, playgrounds and even your front
stoop belonged to the kids. Toys...who needed them when you had a good sized
stick and an old tennis ball for a rousing game of stick ball. Or a good
length of clothes line for double dutch. Or how about my favorite...Boys
chase the Girls. Objective: boy chases girl, boy catches girl, boy kisses
girl, boy runs away, girl chases boy, girl catches boy, girl beats boy up.(
Yes, I was a tomboy). *sigh* Those days are long gone and now I'm a thirty-six
year old mother of four. My oldest son has surgically attached himself to
the computer and video game. My two girls after being outside for five minutes
come back inside complaining of sever boredom and beg to watch DVD's. And
my youngest son, who's thirteen, is the only one who sincerely enjoys playing
outdoors. He even enjoys that old favorite of mine, "boys chase the girls".
Only now it's "girls chase the boys". The rules have more than somewhat changed.
If girl catches boy, girl is willing to give boy more than a kiss. Needless
to say, I spend a great deal of time keeping tabs on that particular child
of mine. I just want to say that I really enjoy walking back down the groovy
lane and sharing the memories of that wonderful decade. Peace, love and happiness
to all!

I love this site! It is far out AND groovy! I cannot believe after reading
almost every message that Barry Manilow's name didn't come up? Come on girls!
Remember making out with our favorite guy to Weekend in New England? ha ha
Another memory I have is the magazine that had the lyrics to all the top
songs each week. For some nutty reason, I would sit and copy the lyrics of
all my songs from the book into a spiral notebook. Hours and hours of writing,
for what? I pity the kids today for their available choices of "pop" music.
I thank God I grew up in the 70's and got to pick from the best ever! Is
there any kind of chat room we could all meet in? I'd love to chat with some
of you guys! Drop me an email if you'd like to chat. Peace, Julie
